Kentlands Bar Crawl Draws Record 150 Participants, Raises Nearly $1,500 for Charity
The annual Kentlands Bar Crawl saw record participation this year, with approximately 150 attendees coming together to raise funds for a good cause. The event, held over the weekend, brought in nearly $1,500 for Comfort Cases, a nonprofit organization that supports children entering the foster care system by providing them with backpacks filled with personal care items and comfort essentials.
This long-running community tradition, which began more than 20 years ago, has taken on a charitable mission in recent years thanks to organizer Kristin Johnston and newcomer Sumbal Sheldon, who joined original founders Sue Kravitz and Debbie Freedman in helping lead the bar crawl. The trio has worked together to grow the event’s impact while keeping its community spirit at the heart of the celebration.
Johnston shared her excitement about the success of this year’s fundraiser, saying, “What an incredible fundraiser! We raised more than $1,400! We want to thank everyone who came to support Comfort Cases and our hosts. We plan to have two more in 2026, one in the spring and one in the fall, to support two more charities!”
Organizers also expressed appreciation to the local restaurants and bars that helped make the event possible, including Grilled Oyster Co., Coal Fire, Bonefish Grill, Quincy’s, and Grape Escape. The Kentlands Bar Crawl has become a cherished neighborhood tradition, drawing more participants each year.
Attendees visited local establishments throughout the Kentlands in Gaithersburg, celebrating the area’s vibrant nightlife while supporting a meaningful cause. With two additional events already planned for next year, organizers hope to build on the momentum and continue combining community fun with charitable impact.
