Maryland volunteers hold ‘packing party’ for Foster Care Awareness Month | Get Uplifted
MARYLAND, USA — May is National Foster Care Awareness Month, and to kick off the month many people in the DMV were truly in the giving spirit.
On Wednesday, a unique event in Maryland called a “packing party” was held to kickoff the month-long campaign. Organizers say kids in foster care usually don’t have a lot of personal belongings and the stuff they do have is often put in trash bags during a move.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore recently signed a bill that outlawed using plastic bags while kids were moving in or out of the system. The objective of yesterday’s event was to fill dozens of backpacks with personal care items for kids in foster care.
More than 250 bags packed at the event will go to local nonprofits serving kids in the foster care system.
